Doug Campbell is a seasoned nonprofit leader and consultant with over 25 years of experience in advancing mission-driven organizations through strategic leadership, operational innovation, and dynamic fundraising.
Doug previously served as CEO for two organizations, first in Edinburgh, Scotland, and latterly in Ypsilanti and Wayne, MI. He also founded a consulting company serving nonprofits internationally, nationally, and locally.
“I’m thrilled to join the team of volunteers, staff, and board at BCFM. Having been on receiving the end of an organization similar to BCFM, I know first-hand how important the work is. I’ve also walked alongside family members and close friends who have endured blood cancer. This work is essential to care holistically for blood cancer patients and their families. We have a clear calling to increase the mission because the need is great.”

While there, she managed a group of 100 volunteers that provided support to hospice patients and their families through companionship, caregiver relief, pet visits, and other special programs. kking@bloodcancerfoundationMI.org
Kristen King always wanted to be a social worker, even before she knew there was such a thing.
“When I was little, I don’t think I knew what the title was that I wanted to do, social worker, but I knew I always wanted to help people,” Kristen said.
She brought her live-long passion for helping people to BCFM in October of 1997. During her time at BCFM, Kristen has served in many roles, including as Vice President of BCFM and Director of Patient Support. After the birth of her twins in 2016, she returned to BCFM part time and now serves as a Patient Events Coordinator. Kristen is responsible for creating and coordinating events for BCFM patients and their families.
“These events give our patients and families an opportunity to have a fun day or evening out without having to worry about the expense. Plus, they get the opportunity to meet other families facing similar situations,” Kristen said.
Before joining BCFM, Kristen worked at Community Services of Oakland assisting the homeless population. She also earned her Bachelor of Science in social work from Western Michigan University and her Master’s Degree in social work from Eastern Michigan University.
When not in the office, Kristen is kept busy chasing her twins, Carlee and Logan, and also enjoys scrapbooking.

dkennedy@bloodcancerfoundationMI.org
As a child, Deborah Kennedy-Kuiper was obsessed with reptiles and wanted to be the Crocodile Hunter. Now, she works with an even greater challenge – helping people overcome blood cancer.
She is a Patient Support Specialist at The Blood Cancer Foundation of Michigan. Deborah helps patients and families cope and maintain their quality of life as they fight blood cancer by providing disease education, emotional support, financial assistance, and events and recreational activities.
“I love working for an organization that provides support to patients by filling the gaps that exist while a patient is going through treatment. Whether that is through a phone call to check in, helping with treatment related expenses, or by providing recreational events,” Deborah said.
Prior to joining BCFM in March 2018, Deborah worked at Neurocore, where she conducted assessments and provided psychoeducation on coping techniques for clients with various mental health concerns.
She earned a Bachelor of Social Work degree from Calvin College and a Master of Social Work degree from Temple University. She also holds a Master’s Social Worker Clinical License in the State of Michigan (LMSW).
When not in the office, she loves to spend time with her cat Luna and her Greyhound Johnny. Deborah and Johnny go to Meet and Greets with the Greyhound adoption group to talk about what great pets the dogs are! She also enjoys baking and spending time with her family.
