Doug is a seasoned nonprofit leader and consultant with over 30 years of experience in advancing mission-driven organizations through strategic leadership, operational innovation, and dynamic fundraising.
Doug previously served as CEO for two organizations, first in Edinburgh, Scotland, and latterly in Ypsilanti and Wayne, MI. He also founded a consulting company serving nonprofits internationally, nationally, and locally. He received a BA with Distinction from Kenyon College and M.Div from Princeton Seminary.

Brittany August serves as the Director of Patient Support at BCFM, where she has been an important member of the team since joining the organization in April 2023. Brittany leads our Patient Support Team in delivering compassionate, effective, and timely assistance to patients and their families. She is dedicated to ensuring our patients feel seen, heard and supported through their blood cancer journey.
Brittany says, "As someone who lost a cousin to leukemia at a young age, I always knew that I wanted a career helping others. I am honored to have this opportunity to support other patients and families."
Brittany holds a Bachelor’s of Sociology from the University of Michigan and a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Southern California. She also holds a Master’s Social Worker Clinical License in the State of Michigan (LMSW).

As Director of Development & Partnerships, Dan serves as a strategic catalyst for organizational growth and community impact. By spearheading innovative fundraising initiatives and cultivating high-value partnerships, Dan ensures the BCFM mission remains vibrant and sustainable. His work focuses on securing the vital resources that empower Michigan families to navigate the complexities of blood cancer with dignity and financial stability.
A 25-year lymphoma survivor, Dan brings a profound personal perspective to his leadership, bridging the gap between organizational strategy and the lived experiences of those the foundation serves. Combining his background in non-profit administration with an MBA in Marketing, he develops sophisticated giving programs and sustainable development models that provide Michiganders with essential, personalized support. Through dedicated partnership building, Dan mobilizes the resources necessary to sustain long-term hope and healing for all Michigan families facing blood cancer.
Ann Katynski

Ann Katynski is a New England native and graduate of Mt. Ida College in Newton Centre, MA, and Southern NH University.
At 23, she became a foster parent, an experience that shaped her enduring commitment to service and community impact. She spent 14 years in Ohio, where she taught yoga and meditation at Ohio State University and DFAS, and was selected to assist in the inaugural residential yoga teacher training program in Columbus, OH. Her professional background spans debt recovery and administrative operations within nonprofit and mission-driven organizations.
Ann is currently a Grants Manager and CFRE candidate, focused on strengthening philanthropic partnerships and advancing sustainable support for families affected by blood cancer.

As the CRM, Finance & IT coordinator, Nicole works across several key areas to keep things running smoothly behind the scenes at BCFM. She manages the donor database, supports financial processes, and helps coordinate the organization’s technology systems, so everything stays accurate, connected, and easy to use.
Nicole enjoys digging into the details and finding ways to make systems work better for the people who rely on them every day. She has a passion to help nonprofits thrive and values being part of a caring team that is devoted to its cause. Nicole lives in Ypsilanti with her family and enjoys crafting, rocks, her dog Bob, and being an active community member. You might even find her as a vendor at a local artesian market.

Kristen brought her lifelong passion for helping others to BCFM in October 1997. Over the years, she has served in a variety of roles and now works as the Patient Events Coordinator, where she plans and organizes events/opportunities for patients and their families.
“These events give our patients and families an opportunity to enjoy a fun day or evening out without having to worry about the expense,” Kristen said. “They also provide a chance to connect with others who are facing similar situations.”
She holds a Bachelor of Social Work degree from Western Michigan University and a master's in social work degree from Eastern Michigan University.

Michelle has been serving BCFM since 2022. Michelle brings with her over 20 years experience as a Clinical Psychologist. Her career emphasis has largely been working with adults and children with developmental disabilities. She’s proud to walk with patients and their families through their journey with Blood Cancer.
She is a self-described “rock nerd” and can be found hunting for rocks on the rivers of Northern Michigan. Her favorite rocks are agates found in the Upper Peninsula and Unakite.
Michelle attended Central Michigan University and Wayne State University graduating with a B.A. in Psychology. She attended the Center for Humanistic Studies in Detroit and graduated with a Master's Degree in Clinical Psychology.

As a BCFM Patient Support Specialist Deborah helps patients and families cope and maintain their quality of life as they fight blood cancer by providing emotional support and resource/financial navigation.
“I love working for an organization that provides support to patients by filling the gaps that exist while a patient is going through treatment. Whether that is through a phone call to check in, helping to find resources, or managing treatment related expenses” Deborah said.
She earned a Bachelor of Social Work degree from Calvin College and a Master of Social Work degree from Temple University. She also holds a Master’s Social Worker Clinical License in the State of Michigan (LMSW).

Heather has been working with BCFM since 2026. She has a passion for working specifically with youth age children and their families. Heather has always loved helping others and has a strong desire to stand in the gaps for those who are struggling.
As a Patient support specialist, I get to use my unique set of skills to talk with others about where they are and give understanding for how hard blood cancer can be on not just the patient, but the family all together. I enjoy hearing stories of victory and look forward to helping support those who are still fighting.
Heather earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Liberty University. She then went on to complete a Masters of Professional Counseling from Liberty University. Heather hold a License in Professional Counseling in the State of Michigan (LPC)
