For Dan Layman, BCFM’s mission is personal. As a blood cancer survivor, he’s navigated the isolation diagnosis and treatment can carry. Years later, as the parent of a blood cancer patient, he saw the other side of that same story, as his daughter faced leukemia and received support from BCFM. Today, Dan leads BCFM’s Development & Communications team and is raising funds to ensure no one navigating blood cancer in Michigan walks alone.

Kristin Sterk’s story is one of heart, faith, and courage. Her combined case of ALCAPA and leukemia is unique, and against all odds, her perseverance has helped her keep stepping forward.

In her late teens, Brittany August witnessed what wraparound support from family and friends meant for her young cousin who was diagnosed with leukemia. That experience moved Brittany to pursue a career through which she supports patients and families in similar situations.
